Step 2 |
Ok, now you're ready to annotate. Go get the blue, blank banner you saved for this lesson. Copy the .gif address into memory. That http://blah blah.gif is called a url. Got it? Great! Now, go to Image Magick (IM) from your fkey. You will see a horizontal box with "URL" in front of it. That is where you paste the url for the blue banner. Put it in there and then click on the "view" button.
Hmmmmm, whats all these buttons for--well don't worry, we're just using one of them for now. You should see that your blue banner has arrived nicely on that page, below all the buttons. Scroll up to the top and click on the button "annotate". Next page--see the word "text"? IM wants you to type in the words you want to put on that banner. So, type in your name. Under that box it wants more information in "offset" (location) and "gravity" but we'll save that for the transparent banner and just leave it at +0+0 and center. Your name will go in the center of the banner. Down further is the box for "fill color" which will be the color of the font. Lets just use white, so type in #ffffff. Make sure you put in the # sign or it won't work. Also, a couple of the IM's want you to put the color number into the "stroke color" box, so if nothing shows up by just using the "fill color", add the color to the "stroke color" box also. Under that is "pointsize". This is how big your text will be. Lets use 30 for now. Delete the "24" and type in 30. Now, we have to pick a font style. Scroll down to the large rectangle box that has the font list and click on it. Just use your arrow keys to go up or down and chose any font there and click on it. It will put a check mark next to it. If you want to view the fonts that IM has, just click the word "font" above that rectangle box. We can do that later, for now, just chose any one. Scroll up and click on "annotate". On the next page you should see your blue banner with your name centered, with a white font. If you don't like it, and you want a different color, different size or font, just use your back key and make the changes and click "annotate" again. You can keep doing this until you get it just the way you like it. Take some time and experiment a little, using different sizes and colors and fonts. Now you have to get your hard work out of there and saved to your own files. Scroll up and click on "output". Next page, under "Format" click on "gif" or "jpg" whichever you want it to be. The blue banner can be a jpg but the transparent one has to be a gif to stay transparent, so click on "jpg". Under "storage type" click "single" because it isn't animated. Go up and click on "output". Next page you will see your image. You can either click on the image and transload, or scroll down and fill in the ftp transloader form. Now, it will be saved in your own files. In step 3 we will annotate the transparent banner with your name and trim off all the excess banner so all you will see is the name and no banner. Step 3 |
